Iowa Camping Destinations To Enjoy This Summer

Looking for a fun weekend trip your whole family can enjoy? We have collected a list of 5 camping destinations that are a must see this summer! Although there are plenty of worthy stops to make, here are a few of our favorites:

1. Maquoketa Caves State Park

Maquoketa Caves State Park comes in as the 1st destination on our list. An Iowa favorite, this park is in Maquoketa, Iowa. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy nature trails and the breathtaking caves. Whether you want to explore on your own or go on a guided tour this state park will give you a memorable weekend filled with adventure.

2. Stone State Park

Stone State Park located in western Iowa is #2 on our destination list. Nestled within the Loess Hills, the park is known for its beautiful trails and other recreational activities. Also known for it’s catfishing- Big Sioux River is an angler’s dream. There are so many activities to do at this park you will have to come back for a 2nd weekend to fit it all in!

3. Pikes Peak State Park

Talk about incredible views, if you are up for an adventure and love beautiful scenery this may be the place for you! Close to McGregor, Iowa Pikes Peak State Park is #3 on our camping destination list. Known for its majestic views of the Mississippi River, Pikes Peak is perfect for a quick one-day getaway.

4. Elk Rock State Park

Located near Knoxville and Pella, Elk Rock State Park is made for everyone to enjoy. From the rich history to the recreational activities, there’s plenty to do for a fun-filled weekend. Whether your camping or just staying for the day you will enjoy all the trails and lake activities.

5. Backbone State Park

Located in Delaware County, just 3 miles shy of Strawberry Point- Backbone State Park is the final travel destination on our list. Backbone State Park has a wide array of activities and facilities to accommodate any group! Also known for it’s challenging cliffs, climbers and rappellers are regular visitors to this state park.
